Case Study 7: Moving copper from a mine
Moving copper from a mine in Parkes, NSW to Port Kembla with no bulk loading infrastructure at the port.
The Solution
Supply 600 ISG bulk mining containers and two ship’s crane tipplers turning the quay side into an EPA approved bulk loading site.
The containers are loaded at the mine site in the conventional way, sampled and graded, and then the lid is placed onto the containers and not removed again until inside the ship’s hold.
The train leaves the Central West area, headed for Port Kembla 400 kms away. The port has loading facilities. so the ship’s cranes are utilised, saving on expensive conveyor belt systems and the containers are used as storage sheds, saving on storage shed costs.
